Chicago won the U.S. bid for the Olympics yesterday. This means that we'll be competing for the next two years with several other cities, like Madrid and Tokyo, to get the games for 2016.
All this competing for the games, first at home and now abroad, is a lot like being in the Olympics itself. It takes years of preparation, planning, training, sponsors, etc... etc.... just to get to the games. Chicago just won nationals and is heading to an olympic games of its own.
I'm going to get tickets to the decatholon before they sell out!!! (Like the upcoming Modest Mouse and Arcade Fire shows, damnit!) I heard there's a 10 year-old kid in Decatur who can run the 40-yard dash in 28.2 seconds!!!
In other news, there has been a rash of random nosebleeds in Chicago lately. First, my professor Joe got a nosebleed in class (I'm a graduate journalism student at Northwestern); he said he hadn't had one in a long time. Then, today on the train, my nose starts bleeding out of nowhere. I make to class and my classmate Clay tells me that he had a random nosebleed last week, also.
What could be causing this gaunt rash of random, seemingly-harmless, potentially-shirt-ruining, nose-bleedery?
What if I had been wearing white?
